PASSION FOR THE PLANET AND THE PEOPLE

Our goal is to inspire!

Even the smallest parts in life, such as socks, need to be both sustainable and spark joy.

Our products are made of organically grown bamboo with patterns and colours inspired by the motherland.

Akụkọ wants to strengthen communities, and that includes all part of the production chain. That's why we have chosen to produce our socks in bamboo.

Cotton cultivation is infamous for its depravation of land and heavy use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers and excessive use of water, which has destroyed and displaced local communities all over the world.

Bamboo is often planted to prevent soil erosion, it can absorb up to 12 tons of carbon dioxide per hectare and it produces 30% more oxygen than any hardwood forest of similar size.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know it takes 2700 litres to produce a cotton t-shirt?

Bamboo needs no irrigation grow and only needs a third of the water than cotton does.

bamboo
for the quality

When it comes to quality, bamboo textile is really soft and gives a luxury feeling. Bamboo materials also require less washing than most cotton which also plays a part in life cycle of a product. On top of this, the bamboo fibers require less dye than cotton for coloration. They are noted to keep their bright colors significantly longer.

Bamboo helps regulating the body temperature, it keeps you warm in cold climates and cool in warmer environments. This is due to its breathability and high absorption abilities. Also, the fiber is odour resistant and anti-bacterial.

social commitment
we aspire to empower

We believe that poverty and inequality are not as a result of inability but rather because of lack of opportunities. Aid and charity are good but empowerment is much greater. Everyone is good at something and has something to offer.

Akụkọ wants to empower and give voices to people of African descent worldwide. We want to create opportunities and a platform for people to excel with the skills and competences they have. Through collaboration we uplift each other.

Whether you are a writer, designer, film maker, photographer, storyteller, entrepreneur or has any other idea, do not hesitate to contact us for a possible collaboration!
